Abia Celebrates TechGirls Star: Miss Grace John Nkpa to Represent Nigeria in the USA Aba, Abia State – July 8, 2025 Comrade Godstime Chizaram Ogbuji

 



In a moment of pride and promise, the Abia State Expanded Executive Council meeting yesterday concluded on a high note with the official celebration of Miss Grace John Nkpa, a teenage student of Academic Planet School, Aba, who has emerged as one of Nigeria’s shining stars on the global stage.


Grace, who is barely in her teens, was selected as one of only three girls to represent Nigeria at the prestigious TechGirls 2025 International Exchange Programme in the United States triumphing over more than 250,000 contestants nationwide.


The TechGirls International Exchange Programme, an initiative of the U.S. Department of State, is a globally recognized summer exchange designed to empower young women in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). The programme brings together talented teenage girls from 37 countries for three months of immersive learning at Virginia Tech, where participants engage in hands-on workshops, leadership development, and mentorship with STEM professionals.


During the Council meeting, Grace delivered an inspiring speech that left attendees moved and hopeful for the future. Her determination and excellence were met with resounding applause, as she was officially recognized and supported by the Abia State Government, which also extended financial assistance to support her trip and growth.


The Governor praised her courage, intelligence, and role as a beacon of inspiration for other girls in the state. “I encouraged Grace to carry the Abia spirit with her to the U.S., and when she returns, to become a multiplier of knowledge and opportunity among her peers,” he stated.


Gratitude was extended to the Director-General of the Abia State Orientation Agency, Ure Abazie, Academic Planet School, and Grace’s supportive family, whose encouragement helped her achieve this incredible milestone.


Miss Grace John Nkpa’s story is not just a personal success it is a symbol of what is possible when young girls are empowered to dream and supported to excel. Her journey is a testimony that Abia girls can rise beyond borders and that the future of the state is indeed bright.
